Inner Wheel Club of Folkestone, 2008-09

Rosemary Milsted, President of Inner Wheel (Folkestone) for 2008-09

Rosemary Milsted, President for 2008-09

Inner Wheel is one of the largest voluntary organisations for women in the world today, formed to complement and support Rotary Clubs and offer the hand of friendship worldwide. To be eligible to become a member you must have a family connection with a Rotarian, Rotaracter or current Inner Wheel member. With 14 categories of membership (click here for a summary of the membership categories), there will probably be a place for you, so why not embrace our objects of promoting true friendship, fostering international understanding, and encouraging the ideals of personal service?

True Friendship?

There are 26,000 members of Inner Wheel in Great Britain and Ireland in 940 Clubs spread over 29 Districts. Clubs meet once a month, usually with a speaker, and also organise social outings and events.

The Association President for 2008/09 is Mrs Myrtle Buchanan, a member of the Inner Wheel Club of Londonderry and her nominated charity this year is:

The Alzheimers Society

International Understanding?

Inner Wheel has over 102,000 members in 98 countries/geographical regions. Members work tirelessly for those in need, both at home and overseas to offer practical and financial help in times of natural and man-made disasters. During the last year, hundreds of thousands of pounds were raised by our members for overseas projects, and by way of practical help we also despatch goods to war-torn areas, and knit and sew blankets and clothes for those in need. At Christmas, toys are despatched to orphanages and areas of hostilities.
The International Inner Wheel President for 2008-09 is Suzanne Nielsen from Denmark and her theme for the year is

Realise your visions and make a difference

Personal Service?

In Great Britain and Ireland, practical help is offered to the sick, the young and the elderly, and disadvantaged, lonely, and handicapped people. Outings are organised to help the local community, and funds are raised by holding events and other activities.

And all the time we have a lot of FUN!

At a local level, the Inner Wheel Club of Folkestone has been working away quietly in the backgound, notching up over 75 years of service to the people of Folkestone. We have links with Clubs in France and contacts in Sweden and Italy.

Our Club President, Rosemary, has chosen to support Young Carers during her year in office.

Inner Wheel offers everyone who joins an instant circle of friends - we meet at Paul's Restaurant on the first Wednesday of the month at 6.45pm. So, please do come and join us - you can be very sure of a warm, friendly welcome.
