Race Night

Friday November 12th 2021
18:30 for 19:00 (first race at 19:15)
Folkestone Rugby Club, Bargrove, Newington

Open to all, Race Night is one of the club's longest-running fundraisers, organised by Rotarian Andrew Beggs. This year's event will be in aid of our local charities.

How it works

Gather together a group of like-minded people and turn up at the venue. There, you will find a well-stocked bar, other groups of like-minded people and a large screen, on which a series of pre-recorded horse races will be shown. Throughout the night, you place bets on the likely winner or finishing order.

Each race is chosen at random by a member of the audience. There are six races and eight horses per race, with the winning owner in each race receiving a bottle of champagne. It adds greatly to the enjoyment of the evening to have a horse or two to support as well as betting on the Tote.

If your bet comes in, don't forget to collect your winnings! At this point, your particular group of like-minded people will very likely notice their glasses are empty and direct your attention toward the aforementioned (well-stocked) bar.

Note: Your tickets will be posted on receipt of payment.

Sponsor a horse

£15 per horse

Sponsorship is not limited to people attending on the night. If you can't make it, you can still show your support by sponsoring a horse or two.

Tickets and horses are strictly first-come, first-served so act quickly as we usually sell out!.

A Brief History

The Rotary Club of Folkestone has put on a “Race Night” every year in November for about the last 20 years.

Originally a “Boxing Night” and then (very briefly) “Snooker Night”, the event has built a loyal following year-on-year with thousands of pounds raised for worthy causes.

Last year, despite Covid, we raised a good sum via our online event but we are hoping to return to our usual target of raising at least £1,000.
