Santa's Grotto

Santa won’t be able to travel this year, until Christmas Eve
We are very disappointed that we can’t bring Santa around the streets of Folkestone in early December this year, as we have done each year since the 1950s. With cases of Covid-19 in the area rising fast and hospital capacity in Kent under pressure, we are unable responsibly to go ahead with these visits. We have agreed with Santa that it would be grossly irresponsible to do anything that might make matters worse. We don’t want to encourage people to gather or in any way to contravene the regulations. They are, after all, designed for our individual and collective safety.

Visit Santa in his Grotto from the comfort of your own home
Thanks to modern technology, however, and by arrangement with Santa, we have made it possible for parents or guardians to book a short conversation on Zoom for their children with Santa in his Grotto. He has asked us to restrict each talk to two or three minutes so that he can speak to as many children as possible. If there is more than one child in a household, they can all talk to Santa together, if they wish.

Opening Times
Santa will be available in his Grotto on six different occasions:

  • Wednesday, 9th December: 5 pm to 8 pm
  • Thursday 10th December: 5 pm to 8 pm
  • Tuesday 15th December: 5 pm to 8 pm
  • Wednesday 16th December: 5 pm to 8 pm
  • Saturday 19th December: 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 5 pm to 6 pm
  • Sunday 20th December: 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

Why we are asking for your donation

Each year, we spend the money that you give us at Christmas on helping to make Christmas memorable for those who are particularly short of Christmas cheer. Year by year, we assist in various ways, but one remains constant. Each year we buy quantities of Christmas goodies, pack them in bags and deliver them directly to people’s houses. This year, we are still buying and packing more than a hundred and arranging for them to be delivered.

We may not be bringing Santa around the streets, but we are still spreading practical Christmas cheer to our neighbours who need our help.

Please give generously.
